RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Interests and areas of expertise: - Flight mechanics and aeroelasticity of rotorcraft vehicles; - Wind energy, design, aeroelasticity and active control of wind turbines; - Flexible multibody dynamics, with particular emphasis on the modeling of rotary wing vehicles and wind turbines, and numerical methods for the solution of algebraic-differential equations; - Control, with particular emphasis on adaptive predictive control, neural control, identification methods, trajectory optimization, control of unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs); - Aerodynamic load prediction methods, including Discontinuos-Galerkin, stabilized and multi-scale methods, automatic unstructured mesh adaption, deforming grids for moving boundary problems. Publications: Editor of 1 book; author and co-author of 85 publications (of which 6 under review) in peer-reviewed international journals and book chapters; 2 plenary lecture; 6 invited keynote lectures; 150 publications in conference proceedings; 19 scientific reports; 2 patents (as of April, 2010). Cheeseman Award for best paper at the 31st European Rotorcraft Forum, 2005.
