RAYAN IMAM: A TRAJECTORY INTO SPACE TECHNOLOGY AND SATELLITE NAVIGATION

We are honoured to host Sudanese researcher and engineer Rayan Imam, in conversation with Pierluigi Di Lizia, associate professor of Aerospace Mechanics at Polimi.

Rayan graduated from the University of Khartoum, where she worked as a research engineer on the University’s CubeSat Project, the first satellite project of the country. Currently, she is a Research Fellow at INGV - Istituto nazionale di geofisica e vulcanologia in Rome and is about to conclude her PhD at NavSAS - Navigation Signal Analysis and Simulation at Politecnico di Torino.

After starting to work in the space industry in Sudan, Rayan continued her academic career in the UK and Italy.

As a young African researcher in the fields of space science and navigation satellite systems who worked in numerous international contexts, Ryan can offer a unique perspective on the contribution of science towards building more just societies and the impact that applications and technologies developed in space have on Earth.
