12th EWSHM: SPECIAL SESSION ANNOUNCEMENT

Special Session: "Economic Impact and Environmental Assessment of Structural Health Monitoring in Engineering Applications"
Dr. Pietro Ballarin is organizing the special session.
Conference dates: 7–10 July 2026
Location: Toulouse, France
Special Session Code: SS2
Abstract submission deadline: December 1st, 2025
About the Session
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) plays a key role in improving safety and reducing life-cycle costs of engineering structures. At the same time, SHM requires careful consideration of its economic viability and environmental footprint. This session will highlight approaches, tools, and case studies addressing cost-benefit analyses, life cycle management strategies, and sustainability assessments of SHM in aerospace, civil, mechanical, and energy applications.
Short Bio
Pietro Ballarin is Assistant Professor at the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology of Politecnico di Milano. He holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the same institution. His research focuses on the mechanical behaviour and fatigue of composite aerospace structures, the development of structural health monitoring systems, and life-cycle cost modelling of aeronautical components. His work combines experimental testing, numerical simulation, and data-driven approaches to support the design and maintenance of advanced composite structures. He is a member of the AMATECH and SIAMS research groups at Politecnico di Milano and contributes to research projects in the field of structural integrity and composite materials.
Call for Contributions
We warmly invite researchers and practitioners to submit their abstracts to this special session, indicating SS2 as the target session.
