Lorenzo Trainelli of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology presented a novel methodology allowing the preliminary sizing of future jetliners powered by hydrogen instead of hydrocarbon fuel, co-authored by Carlo Riboldi, Luca Caccetta and Gabriele Sirtori.
The method is general and was applied to short, medium and long-range aircraft in the frame of the SIENA Clean Sky project, providing insight on possible conversions of existing airplanes as well as on new design solutions for improved sustainability.
