ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION VIA ANALYSIS AND REPRODUCTION OF HEAD INJURY PATTERNS

The Tommy, a unique Finite Element Head Model developed at the LaST laboratory in collaboration maxillo-facial surgeons Drs. Novelli (Università degli Studi Milano-Bicocca / Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori - Monza) and Canzi (ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda), was presented at the 32nd Annual Congress of the European Association for Accident Research, held in Kufstein, Austria.

The model, validated against significant litaretaure cases of impact tests on Post Mortem Human Subjects, is capable of predicting compact bone fracture patterns due to collisions.

Used in conjunction to classical multi-body approaches, the Tommy could be a new tool at disposal of the accident reconstruction community, allowing resolution of complex cases and ultimately enhancing European road safety.
