DRAG AND HEAT REDUCTION MECHANISM OF AERODYNAMIC CONFIGURATION AND COUPLED INVESTIGATION IN HYPERSONIC FLOWS

16 November 2023 — 0 minutes read

PhDAER Seminar
November 16, 2023, 16:30 - "Sala Consiglio" - Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, Building B12, Politecnico di Milano Campus Bovisa, via La Masa, 34, Milano

When the vehicle flying at supersonic/hypersonic speeds, it would encounter an
excessive aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic environment. Reducing both drag and aeroheating on the hypersonic vehicle forebody is a crucial design requirement.
Various techniques have been implemented to reduce drag and aeroheating simultaneously at hypersonic speeds such as spike configuration, opposing jet and forward-facing cavity.
The focus of this seminar is on two basic shock control devices, including mechanical spikes and fluidic devices (opposing jets) and their combinations.
Furthermore, attentions have been paid to the fluid-thermal interaction in the fields of drag reduction and thermal protection system .
The thermal interactions between the spiked blunt body and the external hypersonic flow are considered and the fluid-thermal coupling analysis will be discussed.

Speaker: Miss Yushan Meng, PhD candidate at the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) , Changsha, China
