FIRST TECHNICAL MEETING FOR THE ASI-ISTAR PROJECT

On July 10th, SPIRE and COMPASS research groups had the opportunity to join the first technical meeting for the ISTAR project at the Italian Space Surveillance and Tracking Operations Center (ISOC) in the military base of Pratica di Mare.

This collaboration is the result of an agreement between the Italian Space Agency and Politecnico di Milano for the scientific-technical support to the Italian Air Force in the Space Surveillance and Tracking field, involving other research institutions as Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Università degli Studi di Padova, and Institute of Information Science and Technology.

The covered topics encompass Space Traffic Management, fragmentation analysis, atmospheric re-entry, sensor tasking, telescope image processing, and RSO characterisation.
