11 May 2020 — 0 minutes read

On May 5, 2020 China successfully launched, from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on Hainan island, the prototype of its new "Apollo-like" space capsule, using the new Long March 5B launcher. The stage of the launcher is currently reentering the atmosphere uncontrolled. Despite the lack of official data, the rocket body is expected to be 31 meters long, with a diameter of 5 meters.

The Department of Aerospace Science and Technology of Politecnico di Milano is working closely with the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics, the Italian Space Agency, the Italian Air Force, ISTI-CNR, and the aerospace company Vitrociset S.p.A. to monitor the reentry of the Chinese launcher stage with the Northern Cross Radiotelescope.
