THE TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATION PROCESS: FROM THE APPLICATION TO THE ENTRY INTO SERVICE

PhDAER Seminar

October 3, 2025, from 10:15 until 12:15 - Classroom BL27.04, Politecnico di Milano, Campus Bovisa, Via la Masa 34, Milano

Before a large transport airplane enters into service, it must undergo a severe certification process where the airworthiness of its design is assessed.

The seminar provides an overview of this challenging route shared between manufacturers and regulators. The steps of the certification process are revised in their consequential order. For each one of them, the main aspects, complemented by examples, are highlighted.

All the steps are reviewed: starting from the first familiarization meetings, followed by the definition of applicable airworthiness standards, to conclude with the description of the demanding exercises needed to demonstrate compliance.
