The new anechoic wind tunnel of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, located within the Aerodynamics Laboratory, has been completed and qualified.
The facility was funded through MOST – Centro Nazionale di Mobilità Sostenibile, Spoke 1 Air Mobility, to support research on sustainable urban air mobility.
This anechoic tunnel, the only academic facility of its kind in Italy, features an open-jet configuration measuring 70 cm by 50 cm. It achieves jet speeds of up to 43 meters per second, with an exit section turbulence intensity of less than 0.2%. The plant exhibits state-of-the-art background noise levels and can be used for acoustic and fluid-dynamic measurements on models or components such as wings and propellers, aimed at the development of next-generation advanced air mobility aircraft.
