Aerodynamic Laboratory

Laboratory for fluid dynamics research activities

Aerodinamic Laboratory

The Experimental Aerodynamics Laboratory is provided with different wind tunnels of various dimensions, typology and test regimes. The complete experimental equipment allows carrying out a wide range of tests.
The main plant is a closed circuit wind tunnel with a test section of 1.5m x 1m and a maximum wind velocity of 55m/s.
The experimental activity mainly includes pressure and force measurements, hot wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV).
Tests are carried out in various research fields, from basic fluid dynamics to industrial applications.
Large part of the laboratory activity is also carried out in the GVPM wind tunnel (

Leonardo Helicopters, Alenia, Fincantieri, Thales, Gavazzi Aerospace, Dallara, Alisport, Vulcanair, UTRI, BMC, Bianchi, SIDI, RedBull, Mapei sport, CONI, Rimsa, TecnairLV.
The Aerodynamic Laboratory takes an active part in many european research projects on rotary and fixed wing in collaboration with research institutes like DLR, NLR, DNW, ONERA, and other universities like Technische Universität München, University of Washington, Politecnico di Torino, Università di Pisa.
